ARE REGULAR HEALTH CHECKUPS COVERED BY HEALTH INSURANCE?

Legal situation:

I have a health insurance card, and I want to go for a health checkup. Therefore, I would like to ask the lawyer if my health insurance will cover this. Thank you very much.

Thank you for trusting and sending your question to FDVN Law Firm (“FDVN”). After researching the legal provisions, FDVN has the following information to provide:

According to Article 23 of the 2008 Health Insurance Law (amended by Clause 16, Article 1 of the amended Health Insurance Law 2014), the cases not entitled to health insurance are as follows: 

1. Costs in the cases specified in Clause 1, Article 21 (including medical examination, treatment, rehabilitation, periodic prenatal checkups, childbirth; transportation of patients from district-level to higher-level facilities for individuals specified in points a, d, e, g, h, and i, Clause 3, Article 12 of the Health Insurance Law in emergency cases or when inpatient treatment requires a transfer to specialized technical lines) that the state budget has paid.

2. Nursing and care at nursing facilities.

3. Health checkups.

4. Pregnancy testing and diagnosis not aimed at treatment purposes.

5. Use of assisted reproductive technologies, family planning services, abortion, except in cases where pregnancy termination is necessary due to pathological reasons concerning the fetus or the mother.

6. Use of cosmetic services.

7. Treatment of strabismus, myopia, and other refractive errors of the eye, except for children under 6 years old.

8. Use of replacement medical supplies, including prosthetic limbs, artificial eyes, dentures, eyeglasses, hearing aids, and mobility assistance devices during medical examination, treatment, and rehabilitation.

9. Medical examination, treatment, and rehabilitation in disaster situations.

10. Medical examination and treatment of drug addiction, alcoholism, or other substance addiction. 

11. Medical assessments, forensic assessments, and psychiatric forensic assessments.

12. Participation in clinical trials and scientific research.

According to the above regulations, health checkups fall under the category of services not covered by health insurance.
